Thomas Johnson Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas “Tom” William

Johnson, 68, of Belfair, Washington. Tom suffered cardiac arrythmia while driving

home through Belfair on May 12th, 2025.

Tom was born on March 28th, 1957, in Denver, Colorado to Warren and Becky

Johnson.

Tom married his high school sweetheart, Karen (Schillinger) Johnson on August

18th, 1979. The two celebrated 45 years together this past August. Together, Tom

and Karen raised 2 sons, Thomas William Johnson Jr. and Nicholas Joe Johnson.

Tom leaves behind a legacy of community and athletic involvement and success.

After his family relocated to Belfair when Tom was in the 4th grade, he became a

Boy Scout, proudly earning his Eagle Scout Badge in the 8th grade. While attending

North Mason High School, Tom excelled in athletics, playing football and wrestling

all four years, and taking 1st place at State in wrestling during his senior year. Tom

graduated from North Mason High School in 1975 and went on to graduate with

an associate degree from Central Washington University. Tom was inducted into

the North Mason High School Hall of Fame for athletics in 2016.

Tom spent most of his life working in the woods. His career began at 16, working

for Bill Cady on his Christmas tree farm. Tom went on to work as a carpenter for

several years before turning back to trees, logging with his father-in-law, Russ

Schillinger, as partners at Schillinger Enterprises Inc., a forestry management

company. While working full time as a logger, Tom also worked on Russ and his

wife Patti’s christmas tree farm, Bayview Christmas Tree Farm. Tom and Russ

continued their partnership with J&S Enterprises. In the mid 1990’s Tom and his

wife Karen took over operation of Bayview Christmas Tree Farm and continued to

operate the farm until 2020, when they passed operation of Bayview Tree Farm to

their sons, Tommy and Nick and their wives, who carry on operation of the family

tree farm to this day.

Tom was an avid fisherman, hunter, and outdoorsman, and was a friend to all. He

loved nothing more than sitting around a fire and telling stories of friends and

their many adventures.

Together, Tom and Karen took up golf and were members for over 30 years at

Lakeland Village Golf Course in Allyn, Washington. Tom loved spending time

golfing with Karen, his family, and with his many friends.

Tom was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be missed

more than words can describe. Family meant everything to Tom and his loss has

left a huge hole in the lives of his entire family and friends throughout the

community.

Tom is survived by his wife, Karen, children Tommy (Jaymee), Nick (Liz), his

grandchildren, Thomas, Chloe, Mabel and Mila, his mother, Becky, brothers: Joey,

Gary, and Bruce, his sister, Tracy, and many nephews and nieces as well as great

nephews and nieces. Tom’s father, Warren, preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 14th at Key Peninsula Civic Center from

3:30 to 5:30pm.
