Mary Ellen (Hughes) Tidd, beloved mother of four children, Donald, Robert, Helen and George, passed away November 4, 2025.

She was born in Le Mars, Iowa in 1926 to Thomas and Johanna Hughes. She had seven siblings, Harriet, Mildred, Thomas, Walter, Kathleen, Leon and Helen. At age two, after her parents’ death, she and her twin sister, Helen, were raised in a catholic orphanage in Iowa.

She later moved to California, finished high school and met and married her husband, Donald in 1951. She was a Navy wife for 21 years and a homemaker for the 49 years they were married. They made their home in Vallejo, California until they retired and moved to Shelton, Washington in 1991.

Mary had nine grandchildren, Denise, Donald, Paul, Keith, George, Greg, Geoff, Amanda and Jack and five great-grandchildren, Kristof, Z, Jude, Grace and Evangeline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, all of her siblings, her son Donald and her grandson Greg.

Mary could always be found taking care of all the neighborhood children. In her later years, she moved to Alpine Way and could always be found taking care of her friends. Mary had a smile, a hug and a piece of candy for everyone. She will be missed by many.

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
