Loyd Liles Obituary
Loyd Wayne Liles passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026 at the family home with his daughters Kim and Kelly by his side.
Born to Grace Marie Liles and Loyd Demall Liles on June 16, 1938 in Post, Texas. His family moved to Washington after his father returned from service in WWII.
Wayne graduated from Shelton High School in 1956 and served in the Navy from 1956 through 1966. His naval service allowed him to travel and live farther than he may have imagined during his years in Post, Texas. He often spoke of his time in the Philippines and Japan. He met his first wife Judith Rae Yunk while stationed at Point Mugu, California, and he would often speak of their time living in the Philippines, and his travels beyond.
Following his honorable discharge, Wayne and Judy returned to Shelton, where he began his career at the Department of Corrections. Wayne and Judy would later divorce.
Wayne met Verna Mae Stangland in 1975 and after a brief courtship they were married February 8, 1976. Their life as a blended family began with Verna’s son and daughter Pat and Kim, and Wayne’s daughters Kelly and Karen.
Mom and dad spent many years keeping up with our sporting events, and other activities. Mom and dad made sure we went on annual vacations to Disneyland and various other locations, and we have many stories about our adventures. After we all moved forward with our lives, they had more time to focus on the hobbies and activities they loved. They spent many years with the Black Hills Shufflers which allowed them to travel to Nashville among other cities as they shared their joy of dancing together.
They would also travel to fairs and craft shows as Mom would paint and sell her works and Dad would sell his burl clocks.
Dad loved his Hot Wheels! He was an avid collector and seller. Always trying to be the first to see the new Hot Wheels as they were placed on the shelf at different locations in Shelton and Olympia. He and Mom would travel to many conventions to show some of his collection and network with other collectors.
After Mom and Dad retired, Mom took her love of beauty and creativity and operated Blooms by the Park with Dad delivering the beautiful arrangements that Mom and the wonderful florists created.
When Mom was no longer able to work, they settled into a quiet life enjoying grandchildren until Mom’s untimely passing.
Dad lived independently and meticulously followed his routines until earlier this year.
Mom and Dad are survived by their children Kelly Liles, Kim Kelly, Pat Kelly and Karen Liles, brother Don Liles, sister Jean Williams (David), grandchildren, Nicholas Pratt (Natalie) Alexander Pratt, Sunny Pratt, Jareth Kelly (Amanda), Jourdan Kelly (Stormie), Erika Gutierrez (Danny), great grandchildren Nellacyn Pratt, Korra Kelly and Verona Chambers, nieces Jill Carlsen, Diana Garcia, Rachel Tucker and nephews Tony Liles (deceased) and Mark Liles.
