Obituary of Claudia Josephine McHendry
Claudia Josephine (Palmateer) McHendry, 80, a 1 ½ year Shelton resident, passed away at Alpine Way February 10, 2016 of natural causes. She was born July 24, 1935 in Curtis, WA to Elisabeth (Gillespie) and Henry Palmateer. She served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1955 to 1956, and was a Private First Class on discharge. She married Curtis McHendry on September 2, 1956 in Georgia. She went to Clover Park Technical School and became a Llicensed Practical Nurse in 1972. She retired from St. Peter’s Hospital in 2000.
She enjoyed playing the harmonica, reading, going to concerts and plays, crocheting, sewing, camping, hiking, fishing, clamming, bicycling, wine making, gardening, cake decorating, traveling and cooking. She made the best fried chicken, biscuits, and pies!
She is survived by husband Curtis Gerald McHendry of Shelton; son Clifford McHendry (Dawn), Palmer, AK; daughter Charlene McHendry of Shelton; daughter Cheryl Cuskelly, Tumwater; grandchildren Alacyn Coupe (John), Tahuya; Mathew Mikota, Bellingham; Cody McHendry, Palmer, AK; Sean McHendry, Palmer AK; Daniel McHendry, Palmer AK; Claudia Jean McHendry, Shelton WA. She was preceded in death by daughter Cyndi Masteller.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27th from Noon to 3pm at the Shelton Civic Center, 525 W. Cota St., Shelton. Friends and family are invited to join us in a celebration of Mom’s life Saturday, February 27th. Mom loved desserts, so bring your favorite to share along with memories.
