Unfortunately I just found out that Derek is no longer with us yesterday, please forgive the late post.....I did not know until now he was gone!
He was a wonderful friend with a big heart.
Derek was like family, and always ready and willing to help others, including my handicapped husband and me.
The world is a much dimmer place without him, and we will miss him so much!
Thank you, Derek, for your friendship, companionship, caring and helping others.
For all the fun we had,....teaching me how to run the ski doo machine on the lake, taking me to the airport, hanging out with Johnny and me, and of course, kicking your butt playing 8 ball with you on your pool table!
Thank you for all the good times and all the repairs you came by to help me out with on my property.
Thank you for introducing Ken and I to mountain climbing on Mt. Ellinor! I will never forget how fast you made it up to the top...just like one of those mountain goats at the peak.
Your departure leaves a hole in our hearts, Derek. We love and miss you, your kindness, compassion, and search for perfection.
I know you have gone on to a better place in Spirit, and will see you again in Joy! May God bless you, your family, and all those left behind.
Via con Dios, my friend!
Valerie & Johnny

Derek, I first met you in Florida, your great sense of humor and your personality was instantly captivating. Remember the spiritual cleansing we did in mother ocean, late one afternoon when the mood was down...then up again afterwards. I will always miss you Derek, and I'm sorry I found out that you left us months later... Hiking the falls and trails in Multnomah with you was so much fun. I will truly miss you my friend...miss playing pool with you too at your Lake house, and the boat rides. Rest easy Derek... R.I.P. :gift_heart:

Derek and I met at CSUN in 1999. He helped move my roommate into my apartment but it was not until 2 months later that I actually got to know Derek and Eddie. Derek had a presence about him that made you want to get to know him better. I made him Mac and Cheese that night and we were immediate friends. Over the years, our friendship was off and on. He always remembered to call or text on my birthday. I think he always remembered because on if his nicknames for me was 626. He texted in November, after about a year of not communicating. We picked up right where we left off. I am so grateful that we shared a conversation and a few texts in November and December. I was so excited that he liked his new job. He last texted me in December 23rd. He was hanging out with a friend and having a good time. I am so sad that our conversations have come to an end for now but I know he is resting peacefully and I have another guardian angel. I love and miss you Derek. Eddie and I will continue to share memories. Love, Jen "punk rock, 626, Babs" Keller

So many memories... We were friends the moment we met joking during that first football training camp at CSUN. You were always ready with joke or smart-ass comment. And as teammates and roommates you became one of my best friends. We may not have spoken as often anymore and lived miles a way but every time we spoke or got together it was like nothing had changed. I will miss you more than I can express with words. I hope you are at peace and always know how much you are loved. R.I.P. love and miss you brother...

Even though I'm miles away you still were a good friend. I have so many memories of you, so many funny/crazy things we talked about. I could never forget how you helped me at work and always try to cheer me up when I got to stressed out or was sad. I still can't believe I won't get to see you whenever I go back to visit WA so I will remember that last time I saw & talked to you in person...your last smile...last hug. I love you & miss you tons! What a tragedy, gone WAY too soon. Derek you were a bright spot wherever you went, and I never knew anyone to have a negative word to say about you. You were fun, and generous and so real. You gave me good advice when I needed it, a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and always a smile. Thank you for so many good memories. I'll miss you.

Derek was one of the important people to ever enter my life. The first friend I made when I moved to SoCal in 1999. Even when times were hard for him, his out-pouring of love and generosity was unwavering. He will always be my brother, my best friend -- a true friend. To his parents, his siblings and his friends--my absolute and complete sympathies. I know your hearts are broken as mine is too. Please know he truly loved you to the core. Know that I am here for you through this difficult time. - Eddie Case
