Obituary of Janis Lynn Hemingway
Janis (Jan) Hemingway of Port Orchard passed away January 1, 2017. Born in
Glendale, California, October 22, 1951 to parents Ernst and Beverly
Himmelman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40+ years James (Andy)
Hemingway, her daughter Jennifer Thomas and her granddaughter Eleanor in
Nottingham, England survive her. She is also survived by her father Ernest
Himmelman, mother Beverly Thompson (Russell), brother Steven Himmelman
(Caroline), sister Jeanne Munds (Bill), nephews and nieces and a number of
step-siblings and their families.
Jan was a charter member of Bethel 350 of the International Order of Job's
Daughters in Lancaster, California, who grew up to be an active “Jobie Mom” as her daughter was
involved in the same organization locally.
Jan will be remembered by many as an artisan whose medium was fabric. She
created costumes for Renaissance Fair Players, beautiful formal wear and
custom clothes. She provided, from the day of her granddaughter's birth, a
unique and extensive wardrobe including movie character costumes for the best
dressed, much loved little girl in Nottingham, England.
In keeping with Jan's wishes, no service will be held.
