Barbara Stroud

Obituary of Barbara Jean Stroud

Barbara Jean Lincoln Stroud passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Golden Acres Ranch in Shelton, WA. from natural causes and the complications from Alzheimer’s. She was 89 years old. She was born in Aberdeen, Washington on October 29, 1924, to Warren Lincoln and Blanche (Willey) Lincoln. When she was 2 years old she moved from Potlatch with her parents and sister, Mary Cathryne (Kay), to what is now known as Bayshore. Barbara’s great-grandfather, Enoch Willey started the homestead there with 159 acres on Oakland Bay at the mouth of John’s Creek. The family built the original Bayshore Store, built an electrical generator on John’s Creek in about 1926 for power for the community, and built a water-powered sawmill which furnished the lumber for the Oakland Post Office where her great-grandfather was Postmaster until 1871. Barbara loved the outdoors and spent much of her youth raising horses and giving riding lessons to her classmates on what is now the Bayshore Golf Course. She graduated from Irene Reed High School in Shelton in 1941 where she enjoyed drama classes and played clarinet. She attended Washington State University in Pullman, WA. from 1941 until 1943 when she went to work in Seattle designing wings for Boeing Aircraft during the War. Barbara had a passion for travel and adventure. She loved seeing new places and experiencing new cultures. She loved Mexico and spent many years at home there. She also spent time, later in life, in Richmond, B.C. She was an active member of PEO and was an officer in the State Organization. With her family at Bayshore, Barbara spent countless summers organizing boating trips to the San Juan Islands and camping trips throughout the Olympic Mountains. She won a Gold Medal in the Senior Olympics playing Pickleball, even playing in a younger age bracket, and we all know she is giving lessons to the other angels in Heaven. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and sister Kay and previous husband John Hardin. She is survived by husband Sid Anderson; daughter Carolina Hardin; sons Michael Hardin, Eric Stroud, Mark Stroud; their father Marden Stroud; nephews Steve Edler, Chris Edler, Peter Edler and niece Kathy Edler; 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, please send it to Golden Acres Ranch, 544 Chestnut Street, Shelton, WA. 98584 or to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) A memorial service celebrating Barbara’s life will be held at Bayshore in July, 2014. We will be contacting all friends and family to encourage their presence.
