I first officially met Mikey in Everett on travel duties. I had heard a lot about his crazy personality, and energy for working all the time. He was an expert in many areas and I experienced his expertise in caring for others. I was about a little over a year into working at the Shipyard and our trip was in the middle of winter. It was cold, windy, and wet almost every day. I had this puffy black jacket from some girly retail store I had hanging in my closet. I’d wear it to work and complain everyday about how cold I was. One morning, Mikey brought me one of his Carhartt coats and forced me to wear it the rest of the trip! He told me that I had no choice and I was to wear it every day while he either found another coat or just walked around without one. Ha Ha. He made me laugh because of how he reminded me so much of my grandfather when he was alive. The constant smell of grease and a true Mechanic was a smell too close to my heart. I just couldn’t resist the feeling of family and finding a good friend in Mikey. He will always be in my thoughts for years to come. Aloha my Carhartt gifting friend.

I had the honor of working with Mike (Mikey as many called him) a lot over the last several years, Mike was always a key part to our shafting team and for me he was a leader, a mentor, and a friend. I learned a lot from Mike as did many others, he was always there to help out wherever he could, he was always a good sounding board for me, I knew he would be honest even when he knew I wouldn’t like the answer. Mike was a great person who touched a lot of lives in his many years here at PSNS, I will miss the talks, the banter, the jokes, and my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of loss.

I am just a Young 32 year old man who had the pleasure to work with Mike on our grueling 12 hour days 7 days a week shafting projects. He taught me so much and only helped me succeed in my career here in the shipyard. Mike thank you for all the memories and you truly will be missed. may god rest you soul. From Veteran to Veteran I Salute you!

Mike pretended to be gruff and crotchety, but was good natured all the same.
If you could get him alone he was very sincere and earnest.
We chatted often and I'll miss our talks.
Fair winds and following seas Brother.

Mike was a man of countless skills, talents and stories. I worked with and around Mike on numerous occasions and we would always joke and tease and laugh about almost anything. He was a great talker so you needed an extra 5 minutes or so when you bumped into him. I feel a void now when I'm at work just knowing Mike isn't there but I know he is in the care of our Lord and it's a warm feeling knowing he is not suffering. I pray for you Mike and the family you have still on God's Earth. One day we will visit again my friend, until then Mr. Main, enjoy your time with the Lord. God bless.

I worked with Mike for a brief time on the flight deck, not sure what project but it was about 2002. I knew him for a short time before I went into the yard as he was a friend of my sisters. He loved to make jokes and teach. He always had a laugh and hug no matter the time between running into each other in the yard. Thanks for the memories.

Michael and I were in the same company(254) in Navy boot camp the summer of 1972. After four years in the Navy I went to work at Long Beach Naval Shipyard Shop38, then transferred to PSNS in 1988, where I ran into Michael again, he was also in Shop 38. Enjoyed talking with him through the years until I retired in 2007. Sorry for his loss to his family.
