Obituary of Virginia Bayley

Virginia C. Bayley, 98, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday June 27, 2013, at an adult care home in Olympia. Virginia was born November 12, 1914 in Tacoma, the eldest child of August and Signe Callson. She graduated from Stadium High School in 1932, graduated from Whitman College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1936, and received a certificate to teach grades 7 through 12 in 1937. Her first teaching job was in Shelton, teaching high school English. She married Phil C. Bayley in 1940 in Shelton, and retired from teaching. They had 2 children, David and Joan. In 2006 Virginia moved to Olympia to a retirement center, and in 2010 to “A Place Called Home” in Tumwater, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Virginia’s hobbies included playing golf at Bayshore Golf Course, playing bridge, the piano, genealogy, cooking, walking and reading. She was a member of Chapter B of PEO of Washington for 72 years, serving twice as its president. She was a member of the St David’s Episcopal Church, and sang in the choir. Virginia is survived by her son David Bayley (wife Nancy, grandsons Justin and Andrew) of Tumwater, and Joan Bayley (grandson Philip) of Seattle. Her husband, Phil preceded her in death in 2008. Her brothers, Oliver, Bob, and her sister Naomi also preceded her in death. Funeral services were performed by McComb & Wagner Funeral Home. Private memorial services will be held by the family.
