I had the pleasure of working for Curt when he was in charge of maintenance for Thurston County Parks in the late '70's. Curt made sure we worked hard just like he did but always took care of us and treated us fairly. I remember cleaning and oiling our tools everyday, washing "Old Yeller" the flatbed Dodge and keeping everything neat and tidy. His obvious love of the job and his humor and big smile made the workday so satisfying. I also remember the wonderful strawberry pies Claudia made for a party they had at their beautiful home for the crew. The best boss I ever had, a great man.

My thoughts are with all of Curtis's family and friends at this time. We worked together in Parking Services at The Evergreen State College when I started in the department as a green horn who still has trouble backing up my own car, ha!
What a great friend, mentor, and co-worker he always was. So smart and thoughtful and kind. I have now been there 21 years and still think of him and his beautiful wife often. So genuine and just wonderful people. I learned so much from him and trusted him so much during our time working together.
Thank you, Curtis, for all of the treasured memories I have from those days, including that he was the very best chantrelle mushroom finder and picker I've ever known! You have earned your place in heaven, Curtis! God bless you.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life for Curtis McHendry on Sunday July 16th from 11 am to 3 pm at the Pavilion at Sentry Park, 190 W Sentry Dr, Shelton. There will be refreshments, but people are welcome to bring a favorite dish. The VFW will perform a Color Guard ceremony. Come and share stories and memories of Dad!
