Obituary of Jerry A Swartos
Jerry Allen Swartos died Monday, December 4, 2017, quietly in his home in Shelton, Washington.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Patricia May (Petersen) Swartos; his son Terry Allen Swartos of Shelton, Washington; his daughter Sandy May Swartos of Mount Vernon, Washington; his granddaughter Hannah May Swartos of Anacortes, Washington; his brother Loren Swartos and partner Scott Detrick of Sacramento, California; and many cousins and close friends.
Born and raised in Mount Vernon, Washington, the son of Sanford and Hilma (Fleck) Swartos, he attended Conway Grade School, was confirmed at Fir Conway Lutheran Church, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1960, and attended Skagit Valley College.
Jerry worked for Boeing in Seattle, Electronic Specialty Company in Portland and then moved to Shelton, Washington to work for Certified Manufacturing Company. He then entered the banking world, going on to work for Simpson Employees Federal Credit Union, Hoodsport State Bank, and finally Capital Savings & Loan before opening up Swartos Appraisal Services in Shelton.
During his time in Shelton, Jerry was a volunteer firefighter for District 11, eventually becoming their chief for several years before retirement.
Jerry was very active both locally and as a state Jaycee senator and officer. He also was part of the Kristmas Town Kiwanis and a Son of Legion (SAL) member at the 40et8 Veteran’s Club. He was an active member & officer for the committee Toys for Kids Plus for many years.
Jerry had a passion for race cars and was often seen as a member of the pit crew for Jay Cole’s 360 sprint car as well as many NASCAR tracks across the country.
An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Bayshore Golf Course, often meeting friends on Wednesday evenings for a rowdy round.
An open house will be held on Wednesday December 27, from 1pm-3pm at the Mason County Fire District 11 fire hall on Island Lake Drive in Shelton.
Donations, in Jerry’s behalf, can be made to the Mason Count Fire District 11 Fire Association, under North Shelton Volunteer Fire Department, at Peninsula Credit Union on Railroad Avenue in Shelton.
