Obituary - Leland (Lee) Rhodes
Leland (Lee) Rhodes was surrounded by family when he was called home by his Lord on June 8, 2018 at the age of 90.
He was born in Bridal Veil, Oregon to John and Eva Rhodes. In 1958, he married Catherine (Cathie) in Olympia, Washington.
Lee attended school in Corbett, Oregon, until his family moved to Sitka Alaska in 1941. He graduated from Sitka Territorial High School in 1945.
In 1946, he joined the Navy and spent a year in Tsingtao, China. He was a World War II era vet. He then attended Central Washington College of Education (CWU) where he met his wife, Cathie. In 1955 he received his BA in education and earned his Master’s degree in 1960. He touched many lives in the 38 years he taught; 35 of which were at Bordeaux Elementary School. His teaching career also included one year and many summers at the Washington State Correctional Facility, evening classes at Olympic College and two years at Wishkah Elementary.
He was a devoted family man and cherished his time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing and shrimping, boating, and over 50 years dipping for smelt and camping at Kalaloch. He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cathie; sons Patrick and Todd (Jackie) all of Shelton; daughters Teri (Kip) Whitehead of Richland, Cami (Kris) Anderson of Olympia, and Juli (Mark) Tuson of Shelton. He was proceeded in death by daughter Jana in 1964. His is also survived by beloved grandchildren Branden and Kevin Whitehead, Zach and Cali Anderson, Tanner and Evan Rhodes, and step-grandchild Nicole Tuson; a sister, Flora Baldwin; and numerous nieces and nephews
A service will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Edwards Catholic Church, 601 W C St, Shelton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Seattle Children’s Hospital or your favorite charity.
We couldn’t have asked for a more caring and dedicated husband, Dad, Papa, uncle and friend. He is immensely missed and forever in our hearts.
