Obituary of Irvin C Herrmann

Irvin (Irp) Clyde Herrmann June 10, 1936 – Aug. 24, 2018 Irvin (Irp) Clyde Herrmann, 82, passed away peacefully at Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia with his loving wife Ramona, his son Bill and his brother Bill by his side. He had resided there since suffering a stroke last November. Irp will long be remembered for his huge, caring heart for anyone in need, his great sense of humor and an incredibly upbeat and positive attitude. Irp was born June 10, 1936, in Pequat, Minn. The family moved to Tacoma, Wash. then to Tokeland, Wash. in the early 1940s. He attended Tokeland Grade School, Ocosta High School and graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1955, transferring there for his senior year following a fire that destroyed the Ocosta Jr/Sr high school building. He also attended Grays Harbor College. Irp was a lineman for Grays Harbor PUD for more than 30 years, retiring in 1990. He worked in the South Beach, leading to his knowing most everyone from Tokeland, Grayland, Westport, Ocosta and Markham. Throughout his life, Irp spent many days at his float house on North River hunting and fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting in Eastern Washington with his son Bill for many years. Among his many other talents, Irp carved and painted exquisite birds. For several years, he donated carvings to the Kiwanis Club of Twin Harbors for its annual OHS scholarship auctions. Irp married Ramona Schaben in 1996. The couple moved from rural Westport to Hood Canal in 2000, then relocated to the McCleary area seven years ago. Irp and Ramona made many friends traveling to participate in parades in his restored 1957 Chevy and his pride-and-joy ‘63 pink Thunderbird. They were active members of the Piston Pushers of South Beach car club until his stroke. He also looked forward each year to organizing the family reunion with Ramona and, in the last few years, emceeing the OHS All Classes Reunion. Irp was preceded in death by his father I. E. (Irp Sr.) Herrmann; his mother, Vivian Atwater Herrmann; older sister Flora and younger brother Kenneth. He is survived by his wife Ramona Herrmann of Olympia; son William (Bill) Herrmann of Naselle; daughters Cynthia Reid and Jennifer McManus of Seattle; sister Virginia Harrington of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother William Herrmann of Olympia and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A celebration of Irp’s life is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ocosta Recreation Center. A luncheon will be served. Family and friends are welcome to come and celebrate Irp's life and share memories. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Ocosta Recreation Association, 45 Ocosta 6th St., Aberdeen, WA 98520.
