Obituary of Kenneth Robert Peters

Kenneth Robert Peters, 74, passed away peacefully on Feb 10, 2019 with his daughter Shawn at his side. Ken was born Aug. 5, 1944 in Olympia, WA to Evelyn and Robert (Pete) Peters. He joined two half-brothers Clinton and David Bush. Later, he was joined by a sister, Evelyn. Ken was very athletic and always encouraged by his dad, who played baseball into his adult years. At Tenino High School Ken was All American and lettered 4 years in both Baseball and Basketball. He was entered into the Tenino Hall of Fame. He also found time to play trombone and be an officer in the band. Ken’s father passed away in 1962 and after high school he worked in the woods to help support his mom & sister. After his mom passed away in 1965, he joined the army and was stationed in Germany for part of the time. When he returned home, he joined his brother Dave working at the Postal Service in Olympia. When Ken and Pauline Ayers partnered Ken instantly became a dad to Pat and Joyce Ayers, a role he had always wanted. Pauline joked that he fell in love with her kids before he did her. As the family grew they welcomed Shawn and Eva. He sometimes whined that 5 women were hard to handle, but he survived. Of course, all of his daughters were involved in softball, and the family made many friends and had happy times spent on the ballfields. From a young age on he enjoyed all sports, spending time with friends and family, playing pool with his cousins, brothers, and nephews and doing anything that involved FOOD. After retirement he and Pauline enjoyed camping, spending time with each other, watching grandkids’ sports and playing pull tabs. After his wife passed away, he took on the role of being a self-proclaimed TV critic. His favorite pastime was watching Price is Right, Perry Mason and any sporting event that was televised while listening to another on his portable transistor radio. He created a small garden on his apartment deck and lighted it for the holidays. He never lost his love for his home town of Tenino and would visit there as much as possible. He enjoyed the pineapple milkshakes at Scotty’s and visiting his parents and Dexter's graves. Ken is survived by his favorite sister Evie (Jim), Brothers George Peters and Jim Peters (Kathy), daughters Pat, Joyce, Shawn, and Eva (Jerry). His 10 Grandkids include: Kevin, Dyllon, Samanda, Austin (Jenna), Alisha (Jeremy), Dalton, Amber (Jesse), Zach (Andi), Destiny (Isaiah) and KenDell. His 8 Great Grandchildren are: Mariya, Adrien, Rayelynn, Audreyanna, Hunter, Gabriel, Emma and Aunna. A Celebration of Life will be held, Sunday Mar 3 at 1:00 pm at the VFW Hall on 2902 Martin Way E, Olympia, WA 98506 In lieu of flowers, donations of money, toiletries or perishable items can be made to the Tenino Food bank in his honor. Ken donated himself every year and would have appreciated it. When you are lonely and sick of heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds; Miss Me – but let me Go.
