Obituary of Steven P Latimer
Steven Patrick Latimer was born February 6, 1959 and died at home on April 2, 2019. He was raised in Des Moines, WA as the 8th of 10 children born to Jim and Grace Latimer. He was a proud iron worker for 35 years, including the 21 years he successfully started up and ran K&L Rebar. He retired to Shelton, WA where he met and married the love of his life, Roxanne Bales.
Steve battled type 1 diabetes most of his adult life and spent the last two years fighting and beating lung cancer. He treasured every day and every breath. His favorite lifelong passion was dirt bikes. He was a founding member of Team Crutch and helped hold and compete in numerous events through Cascade Family Motorcycle Club. He also was an integral part of building the access to the McCleary project for off road riding. He shared his love of dirt bike riding with everyone he met- “BRAAAP”!!
His connection to the outdoors was intense, especially to living on the water. He bought the family home on Pickering Passage where he continued to enjoy skiing, wakeboarding, crabbing, shrimping, and boating off on date nights with Roxanne. He personally redesigned his house to enjoy the outstanding life offered by the Pacific Northwest. He loved his ability to live off the land through gardening, harvesting seafood, hunting on the property, and chanterelle picking. He and Roxanne shared part of this with us through their amazing Oysterfest celebrations!
Steve also loved helping other people and he changed so many lives through the support he offered. He would stop everything to help friends, family and anyone in need. He provided jobs in iron working, mechanic support for your broken vehicles, and his own physical labor – especially if you needed something painted! He truly was an amazing and giving person.
He is survived by his loving family - wife Roxanne and daughter Alissa Latimer, son and grandson Patrick and Ronin Latimer, and step children Spencer Bales, Jason Allinson and Amber Viggiano. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Grace, sister Susan, and brother James. He joins in heaven his first child, baby James, who left this earth just prior to birth. He is also survived by bothers Michael, Kenneth and Donald Latimer and sisters Karen Person, Jean Sapp, Kathleen Beaudoin and Lori Schmidt.
We will gather to celebrate this beautiful man’s life at his home - 50 E. Schneider Rd., May 18th, 1-4 pm. Please bring a potluck dish and memories to share for this celebration of life.
