Obituary of Belinda York

Belinda (Blackburn) York passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Olympia, WA and is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior. She was born Sept. 3, 1948 in Santa Cruz, CA to the late William and Mary Blackburn. After graduating from Santa Cruz High School she became a Candy Striper, then CNA at Santa Cruz Hospital. She married the Love of her life, Ronald J. York on Dec. 2, 1967 in Santa Cruz, CA where they had three children. She owned an antique store in Soquel, CA, before moving to Shelton, WA with her family in 1978. She had various jobs until she started with the Shelton School District in 1990 as a School Bus driver for twenty plus years, then later became a custodian at Shelton High School, where she worked until she retired in 2011. She had many hobbies including: spending time with her grandkids, buying and refinishing antique furniture, making jewelry (which she always loved to share with others), crafts of many kinds, hunting, fishing and camping (which she enjoyed with her family). Over the years she was involved in various activities, usually involving her kids and grandkids. She was known by those closest to her for the tea parties that she and her two granddaughters put on for family and close friends. Belinda is survived by her husband Ronald York of Shelton, children Michael (Michelle) York of Union, Matthew (Katie) York of Winlock, and Sarah (Stephen) Smotherman of Union; grandchildren JoAnna Smotherman, Alyssa (Nick) Campbell, Brent Smotherman, Drew York, Zach York, Wade Smotherman, Seth York, Chloe and Richie York; and one great-grandchild Rhett Campbell; sisters Ginger Wagner of Arizona, Jeanette Haines of California; sister-in-law Pam (Marlin) Royston, and nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019, 2:00 p.m., Faith Baptist Church, Chehalis, WA.
