Obituary of Douglas G Smith

Douglas G. Smith was born in Minot, ND on April 30th 1947. He passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2019. He is survived by his brother’s Ron Smith, and Rick Smith, and sister in-laws Denise, Donna, and Darlene, and nephews Dale, Jason, Chad, and Josh, and Niece’s Lorraine, Jennifer, Cherisa, and Melissa. He is also survived by his cousins and his best friend Robert Groshong. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Doris Smith, and his brother Darrel Smith, and his nephew Brian Smith. Doug graduated from Minot State University where he earned his teaching degree. He taught at Sherwood High School. After being a teacher he moved to Brooklyn, NY and worked for the I.R.S. He was then transferred with the I.R.S. to Tacoma, WA, and continued his career with Tax preparation at Robert’s Tax and Bookkeeping Services. Doug loved being around family. Whenever there was a family get together he was always there. He enjoyed spending the holidays with family and especially when there was a Seahawks game on. The family was very fortunate that Doug attended a family reunion at Rick and Donna Smith’s home in Traverse City, MI just two weeks before his passing. Doug’s favorite hangout was Spuds. He also did the book keeping and made many friends there over the years. Thank you Spud and Bob so much for your kindness to him. He appreciates it more than you will ever know. Celebration of life will be held at Cassidy’s 9621 Portland Ave Tacoma, WA at 1:00 PM Saturday September 21st.
