James was my grandpa. I loved that my grandpa was so intelligent, I always learned something when I spent time with him. One of the coolest things he taught me was how to do calligraphy.
When I was 4 or 5, my cousin and I spent the summer in Washington with him, our grandma, and our aunt. We had an amazing month and did a lot of interesting activities. My favorite memory, though, is him singing a song he had written to us. I loved the song and always wanted to hear it when he was around. In my mind, I can still hear him signing this song to this day, he had a beautiful voice.
"Once there was a boy down in Jamaica,
He never knew his savior Lord.
He never heard of Jesus Christ,
The only begotten son of God.
Thank you God for sending me Jesus,
Just for to save us from our sings.
Thank you God who created Heaven,
And opened the doors to let us come in.
When I was a boy my momma told me,
"Son, you got to do things right".
But I never wanted to listen,
Sleep all day and play all night.
Thank you God for sending me Jesus,
Just for to save us from our sings.
Thank you God who created Heaven,
And opened the doors to let us come in."
Rest in peace, Grandpa Jim.
Love,
Erika
