Obituary of Donald Leon McElwain
Donald Leon McElwain
Donald Leon McElwain, loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Friend, passed away with loved ones around him on December 30th, 2019.
Dad said, weeks before he passed, that 83 years went by fast. That was profound. “Went fast”, he said. He lived so much life in that timeframe. Loved many, and traveled all over this great country.
In his younger years, he served at Ft. Bragg, N.C., as an 82nd Airborne Paratrooper. He even jumped for the Queen of England. One time his chute did not open, leaving him in body cast for months. After leaving the military, he worked at Boeing for a few years. He then made a strong career in construction. He built bridges, buildings and beautiful homes, in many different areas. He had a great love for the outdoors and for wildlife. He hunted and fished all over. He lived a while in Alaska, where he had the best of both worlds; hunting and fishing. Alaska stole his heart forever.
Dad had a great passion for reading and most definitely kept up on politics. He enjoyed going to the gym, which he referred to it as the fitness center. Some days he’d go multiple times, doing small workouts.
Many family and friends have gone on ahead of him. It brings a smile to my face thinking of the reunion. He leaves behind family and friends who will continue to love and miss him greatly.
“Thank you for sharing the gospel with me Dad. Though this is the greatest loss of my life, I know I will see you again in Heaven. Till then, know that you are immensely missed and loved very much.” John 3:16 Celebration of Life to honor and remember what a great blessed man he was, will be held at Angle Lake Court Dining Hall, SeaTac, WA, January 19th, 2020, from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
