Bobbie Bamford Passes Away
Roberta (Bobbie) A Bamford passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014. She was born May 18, 1927 to George B. and Adeline F. Jones in Beaver, WA. Bobbie attended school in CleElum and Forks, graduating in 1944 at Clallam Bay High School. She then went to work in a secretarial position at the Seattle Port of Embarkation during World War II. She returned to Port Angeles in 1947 going to work for Port Angeles Western and Milwaukee Railroads in secretarial positions. She met the “love of her life” Robert (Rob) J. Bamford and they were married September 3, 1949 in Port Angeles at the United Methodist Church. In 1964 they moved to Shelton when Rob became Sr. Accountant for Mason County PUD#3, retiring in 1981 as Auditor.
She was a member of the Shelton Methodist Church, the Ladies’ Elks, Bayshore Golf Course, and the Shelton Women’s Investment Group. She worked in real estate for many years and finished her career at Ed Stock Realty, retiring in 1991. Bobbie and Rob traveled extensively in their RV and settled down in Sunbird Golf Resort in Chandler, AZ in 1992 where they lived 6 months in the winter and in their home in Shelton during the summer. She & Rob loved to dance, bowl, golf, and fish together.
On March 3, 2000 she lost Rob to cancer, but she continued to go back to Arizona every winter until her passing. She loved to make “all occasion” cards, play bridge, cribbage and pinochle, read and enjoy her property north of Ocean Shores in the summer.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Gene) Dunbar of Shelton and son Bruce Bamford of Olympia, her brother, Allen (Barbara) Brunstad of Port Angeles and numerous nieces and nephews, and her Balinese cat, MitZi.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, a brother and sister.
The family will have a “celebration of life” on Saturday, September 13th, 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Shelton with a luncheon following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in memory of her to the Senior Services for South Sound (Meals on Wheels Program – Mason County), 222 Columbia St NW, Olympia, WA 98501.
