I met Dudley as the attorney for Easterseals Washington when I became CEO, and we soon became friends of his and Anne's. They welcomed us into their beautiful home for dinners and annually as a pre-party to the Harstine Island New Year's Eve dance. Dudley has been my go-to call for advice or reassurance when crazy things have happened or just for a moment of friendly conversation during an otherwise hectic day. There are few people that I respect and appreciate as much as Dudley. He is leaving a tremendous legacy marked by thousands of people who are grateful to have known him.

I only had the privilege of knowing Dudley over the last three years as he and Anne so generously provided our locally formed Indivisible group with a meeting place in their wonderful home. In just a short time I came to appreciate his thoughtful contributions to our discussions, his passionate expression of his beliefs and values and his dry wit. The Harstine Island community has lost a gem, and I am thankful for the opportunity I had to learn from and be inspired by Dudley.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Dudley’s passing. We met Dudley in early 2018, when he assisted us in establishing a non-profit organization, Charlie’s Vision, in honor and memory of our son, Charles D. Rhodes, who passed away in December 2017. Dudley became a founding board member of the organization formed to support Washington State Law Enforcement. We are forever grateful for his service to Charlie’s Vision and for his and Anne’s friendship to us, personally. Our sincerest condolences to Anne, their family, and friends.

I first met Dudley when he came into my office at the county to explain, ever so gently, why the county was wrong about an issue with a water pipe in his neighborhood. I don't remember if I agreed with him but he got what he came for. He applied that same gentle, and gentlemanly, approach to to all he did. I will miss his laughter at theater club plays. His thoughtful counsel on life and legal issues. and the obvious joy he and Anne shared when entertaining or being entertained.

Having known Dudley since 1979, it’s hard to accept that this gentleman with his enormous intellect and even more compassion has crossed the bridge. Love and countless beautiful memories to Anne, Marianne and Jeanne. Dudley touched more lives than you know and we are all better for it. Love, Peggy Smith

I can honestly say I have enjoyed every conversation with Dudley over the years. Was so helpful, calm and of course direct. Especially so after the passing of my Brother overseas a couple years ago and working through all that was involved with that situation.
Thinking of you all, and hope during this time of sadness, that the best of memories, the kind that makes one smile, well to the top.
A wonderful individual.
