Oh how I always looked forward to seeing Kelly when he came into my work. He was always so happy and talkative. He will be greatly missed.

I'd like to extend my sincere condolences to all family members and friends of the unique and kindhearted Kelly Hurst. When I learned of the news of his passing, I had an immediate memory of a time many years ago when Kelly came to see me in Bend, Oregon while in route to California. We shared a lovely lunch on a sunny day at a restaurant on the Deschutes River. He was so good-humored and chatty. It was a lovely day. I saw Kelly subsequently at a few gatherings at John and Judy's, but while I hadn't seen him recently, I still fondly recall his pleasant, laid-back demeanor, mustache and big smile. As another animal lover, I value his kindness to all living things. I also appreciate his service to this country. Rest in peace, Kelly... Kathy Morris

Among family members, the joke has always been that if reincarnation is to be our fate, we all wanted to come back as Kelly's dog. Nobody has ever been kinder, or more compassionate toward the animals that shared his world than Kelly. Over the years, he enjoyed the companionship of many dogs, rescued horses and stray cats and each one received respect and dignity, was seen very much as individuals with personality and value. The world has lost a man of deep integrity and essential sweetness.

I met Kelly and Pepper (Miss Peeps) in 1974 on one of his Texas adventures. Through many twists and turns of our lives, we stayed in touch - sadly until recently. I knew him to be all those things his people are saying, kind, compassionate, generous and humble. He was so brave. He was also very fun! This photo is from the back of an envelope of one of his letters from 1978.
Much kindness to the people who loved him and hurt from his absence. I am with you.

I want to express my sincere condolences to all members of Kelly's family.
In addition to Kelly's keen artistic talents, I will always remember him for his compassion kindness, and love of animals. He saved many dogs, cats, and horses over his lifetime, treating each one with great respect and individuality.
Kelly will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched and all his
"Furry Friends" he left behind.
Thank you Kelly for your remarkable stewardship of this world.
You will not be forgotten.
Linda Hale, Friend and HS Classmate.
