Ben Jennings

Obituary of Ben Lindsay Jennings

Ben was born in Bellingham Washington in 1932 and was raised there. His father served in the military and owned a business as a mechanic fixing cars. His Mother took care of the family, which included two boys and a girl (Ben, Roland and Betty). Ben joined the Navy during which time he met Carol and they later married. Their marriage lasted 48 years until the unfortunate death of his beloved wife. Ben started his young family in Chicago. His first child, Kevin was born in Chicago in 1957 and his second son Scott also was born in Chicago about three years later. Ben studied Engineering at DeVry university. In 1962 the family moved to Burien Washington when Ben was offered a job at the Boeing Company. After a significant down turn in the Aerospace industry, Ben was laid off from Boeing and for a time was the night manager at a local bowling alley to provide for the young family. Ben later was offered a position at Korry Electronics first as a draftsmen but worked his way up to become Korry’s Quality Manager. Ben was employed there for 17 years. His children have fond memories of watching Ben play softball for the Korry softball team (fast pitch). In the last years of his career, he worked for Honeywell as Acoustical Engineer. These years seems to be among the happiest of his working years. In 1975 Ben and Carol bought property at Lake Cushman. Starting very small with a tent, eventually a cabin was built. This place would turn into a consistent meeting place for both the immediate and extended family for the next twenty years and would be the place where his eventful and accomplished life would end. A place where he was happy and at peace. After the death of his wife Carol, Ben seemed lost for a time but then met Joanne. Joanne made him happy. The two learned they had much in common, Ben was an avid Golfer as was Joanne. Both liked traveling. Ben was funny when you asked him how he played that day. Even though he played hundreds of games, when asked he would always say “well I didn’t think I was hitting the ball very good today”. Ben is survived by his brother, his two sons and their spouses, two grandchildren and their spouses and five great grandchildren. His sons had been told by several people during his lifetime that “Ben is a very nice man”. Truly he was and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
