Obituary of Kevin Willis Barnes

Kevin Willis Barnes, September 27, 1955 to January 27, 2021. Kevin’s passing was due to complications developed after a coronavirus infection last summer. He is now at peace. He is survived by an elder brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Katrien Barnes of Belgium, and his stepmother, Barbara Barnes of Newport News, Virginia. Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Irene Clara Lamb Barnes, 1998, his eldest brother, Terrence Galen (Terry) Barnes, 1999, and his father, Willis George Barnes, 2016. Kevin was a 1973 graduate of Menchville High School in Newport News, Virginia. As an adult, Kevin struggled to find his way. After high school he enlisted in the US Army, and received an honorable discharge in 1977. Back in Virginia he worked a number of jobs and then relocated to Texas for six years before returning to Virginia. In 2003 Kevin relocated west, to Portland Oregon. After suffering brain damage from a burst aneurysm, Kevin spent his last 14 years in a Washington State nursing facility. Kevin was fond of motorcycles. Before his brain accident, he had a classic Harley-Davidson that he was proud of. He was a music lover, favoring jazz, reggae, R&B, but enjoyed all genres. Kevin adored the ladies and had numerous girlfriends, yet never decided to commit to marriage. Kevin always referred to our father, Willis, as “The Sarge” because of Willis’ 23 years in the Air Force. He had a quick wit and good sense of humor. Whether times were good or otherwise, Kevin was our brother, a son, and friend to many. He will be missed.
