Obituary of Steve Hills

James Steven "Steve" Hills was born February 1, 1951 in Toledo, Oregon to James F and Inez Ruth "Sandy" (Smith) Hills and he died at home January 26, 2021. He moved to Shelton in 1963 from Tillamook, Oregon with his family where he met Myra Lynn Depoe. The two married in 1969, enjoying 52 years of being married to their best friend. Steve spent many years in various careers, he worked in the logging industry at the mill and sort yard for Simpson, he owned and operated a semi truck, running heavy equipment for an excavating company as well as Mason County Public Works. He was also beloved in the horse community as their horseshoer for more than 40 years. Steve's first love was his family. His idea of heaven on earth was being out on his boat with his family, fishing, crabbing, and digging clams. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time at his "funny farm", raising cows for beef and spending many hours playing pinochle with family and friends, "crowing" when he got a 300 pinochle. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Sandy Hills. He is survived by his beloved wife, Myra, his brother Joe, his daughters, Tricia (Kevin) Kealy, Jamie (Bob) Thario, and Stephanie (Todd) Vander Galien. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Timothy, Thomas, Patrick, and Sean Kealy and Steven and Mariah Julian, his great-grandchildren, Hadley, Zaeley, Brynlee, Emily and Raymond, as well as a new one on the way. Such a big heart will often get tired, and Steve's finally gave out at home, at the computer, while looking up the next place to go fishing. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. A memorial will be held at a later date once the pandemic eases and its safe to gather again.
