Obituary of Marie Susan Harrah Mader
Marie Susan Harrah Mader journeyed home on June 29, 2021 @ 4:15 pm at Fir Lane Health & Rehab. Marie was 8 days from celebrating her 100th Birthday. She was born to Pearl and Ethel Ridlen on July 7, 1921, she did not come alone, she came with her twin brother, Lee. They were 2 of 10 kid’s. Marie graduated from high school in May of 1935. I am not sure how my grandparents met but she married Russell Harrah on July 31, 1940, they had two sons, Roger was born June 8, 1941 & Jim was born March 8, 1945 after starting her family she went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1958. She worked in healthcare for most all of here working career until she retired. Once her sons married she became a grandmother to six grandchildren and even a great grandma and a great great grandmother. They moved from Colorado to Washington State approximately in 1978 where both of their sons were at. They first settled in Auburn, WA where they lived for a few years before moving to Hoquiam and then ending up in the Lacey/Olympia area. Russell passed in 1996 where grandma continued to live until she decided to marry George Mader. She moved to Ontario, Idaho to live for a few years. Marie later moved back to Tacoma and then moved back to Lacey where she attended Temple Baptist Church in Lacey until we had to move her after her falling and fracturing her back. She wasn’t excited about going into an assisted living facility. Marie would give the staff a bad time and tell them that she couldn’t stand around like they did when she was working. She made sure to tell everyone she was a nurse. She was loved by the staff even though she wasn’t the easiest person in the world to care for. One of the nurses told me that Marie taught her patience. She was there for four years which to Marie seemed like a lifetime. She was loved and will be greatly missed!
She is survived by her son, Jim Harrah of Shelton, her sister Lucille Dinnel of Nebraska and her brother Carl Ridlen of Tennessee, her grandchildren, Lori Sutton of Colorado, Andrea Nickerson of Utah, Tammy Stevens of Shelton, Jamie Harrah of Vancouver, Tim Harrah of Arizona. Along with many great and great great grandkids, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Russell Harrah and George Mader, son Roger Harrah, sisters, Lois Dow, Pauline Johnson-Landrus, brothers, Lee, Roy, Robert,Ray, Paul Ridlen.
