Obituary of Evelyn Marian Hubbard

Evelyn Marian (Coffman) Hubbard, 92, died Nov. 16, 2014, at home in Shelton. She was born Dec. 24, 1921, to Miles H. and Marian R. (Morton) Coffman, in Tacoma, WA. Evelyn was very proud to be a descendant of the pioneering family headed by Miles B. Hunt which settled the Gig Harbor area and were an integral part of the Mosquito Fleet. Evelyn spent her childhood in University Place where her father owned a grocery store and gas station. In the early 1940’s Evelyn married Harold Higley. That marriage ended in divorce. She was married to John E. Hubbard from 1947 until his death in 1985. Evelyn and John moved their family to Shelton in 1959. She worked at Nita’s Café for a few years before leaving to work at the local J.C. Penney store. She retired in 1984. Evelyn was a member of the Eagles and the Forty & Eight. She enjoyed boating, shuffleboard, bowling, and playing pinochle. Evelyn was the life of the party. She loved to dance and have a good time. She loved to dig razor clams and go crabbing. Evelyn also loved cats. She always had two or three. They seemed to know she was a soft touch, showing up at her door and finding a loving home. Evelyn is survived by her daughters Linda Grimsey of Tacoma, Viki (Larry) Winner of Olympia, and Barbara Hubbard of Shelton, 9 Grandchildren, 15 Great –grandchildren and 18 Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother Miles Coffman Jr., husband John Hubbard, and long time companion Charles Adams. A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Dec 4 at the Shelton Presbyterian Church, and a reception will follow.
