Obituary of Alan David McMann
Alan David McMann age 70, of Elma, Washington passed away peacefully December 24, 2014 in his home from a two-year battle with cancer.
Alan requested a private burial and funeral. The family will hold a Celebration of Life in the upcoming summer to allow for long distance family and friends to make arrangements.
Alan is survived by his wife Donna McMann of Elma, Washington; two daughters and their spouses Paula Beatty of Olathe, Kansas and Sandra McMann-Oergel of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren Sara and Emma Beatty and Caitlin and Alex Spillman; brothers John McMann, Dale McMann, Thomas Gettys and Jimmy O’Reamer and sisters Robin Singer, Jackie Bennett, Patricia Ottman, LeEtta Ottman and Yvonne Youell and many friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Patricia O’Reamer, father John McMann, stepsons Michael and Robert Volesky and wife Alberta McMann.
Born June 18, 1944 in Bremerton, Washington to John Franklin McMann and Patricia Jean McMann, Alan lived in both Washington and California before he joined the Navy at the age of 17 where he obtained his GED. After serving during the Vietnam war, he settled in Olympia, Washington working at Continental Can (later Crown Cork and Seal) until retirement. He was an avid sportsman enjoying fishing, hunting and gardening and was a talented wood carver. He had a love for the water and would often spend his time scuba diving (as a young man) and fishing. He was a man who knew no stranger and with his amusing and enjoyable personality, was never short of friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of the Grays Harbor Home Health and Hospice. Their dedication and efforts to provide quality care over the last 10 months have been a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.
