Obituary of Jack Walter Christensen

Jack Walter Christensen, 84, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014, in Olympia. He was born September 27, 1930, in Tacoma to Arthur and Mildred (Lambert) Christensen. He moved to Shelton with his family in 1947 and was a 1948 graduate of Irene S. Reed High School. After graduation Jack moved to Redwood City, California and then joined the Army in 1952. He was stationed in England where he met and married June Marsh on July 10, 1954. He and June moved back to Shelton in 1955 and owned and operated Chris’s Ice Cream Store until 1962. In 1960 he started his career with Mason County and retired as Assistant County Engineer in 1985. Jack was past president of Shelton Kiwanis and coached numerous little league baseball teams. After June’s death in 1977 Jack married Joan Knight. He and Joan enjoyed traveling during their retirement years. Jack is survived by his wife Joan of Shelton; sons Bob (Ann) Christensen of Sammamish and Doug (Valerie) Christensen of Bainbridge Island; daughter Lisa (Don) Welander of Shelton; step-sons Terry Knight of Shelton and Kent (Diane) Knight of Ravensdale; step-daughter Sherri (Dan) Lombardy of Shelton; brother Perry (Sherry) Christensen of Olalla; sister Linda (Ron) Mason of Lacey. Jack is also survived by his grandchildren Brian, Lindsey, Andrea, Joel, and Jacob Christensen; Kyle and Jared Welander; Korey, Kasey, Trevor, Delaney and Paige Knight; Ken, Angela, Tim and Shannon Arndt; and 15 great grandchildren who were his pride and joy. A memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Shelton at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2015. Arrangements are under the direction of McComb & Wagner Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Shelton.
