Obituary of Chelsea Thomas

Please share a memory of Chelsea to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Chelsea Thomas Chelsea Thomas, age 34, passed away at her home in Union WA on Sunday, November 26, 2023. She was born in Bermuda on March 3, 1989 and moved to Crete Greece with her family where she explored the hills and beaches and was fed ice cream and watermelon by the neighbors in her Greek village. At age 6, her family moved to Oxnard California. She attended Rose Avenue Elementary school, as part of the Gifted and Talented program, and won the California Stare Science Fair. At Fremont Jr High and Oxnard High School, she maintained a high GPA and excelled at soccer, especially as a fierce goalie. While on the wrestling team, she won first place at the California State Wrestling Championship. She attended UCSB and had recently transferred to Central Washington University where she completed both a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and in Sociology. Chelsea was kind, giving, creative, extremely intelligent, and so very funny. She approached life with wonder and her laugh would fill a room. Dogs captured her heart and she often helped homeless or lost pups. She adopted a hideous little dog named Nugget, who had been returned to the shelter 4 times, and they were inseparable for years. She also helped her mom and stepdad foster bulldogs through Bulldog Haven NW. Chelsea was an amazing person with a big and bright life ahead of her. Unfortunately years of drug use took it all away. She developed drug induced schizophrenia that got her into legal trouble many times. Earlier this year, she finally made the break with her boyfriend and damaging lifestyle to came home to her family. After two months of inpatient treatment, she was released to an outpatient program that did not take care of her. Despite her repeated requests for additional treatment and surviving an overdose, there was no help given. Thanksgiving Eve, she took pumpkin pie to her ex-boyfriend and evidently obtained drugs from him. Three days later, after a wonderful afternoon with her mom and helping her stepdad fix a dishwasher, she went to her room to do some computer work to look for jobs. When her stepfather came to say goodnight, she was gone. After taking methamphetamine and fentanyl, she had passed out and suffocated. Her family shares these heart wrenching details in hopes that it might save another life. This bright light could not shine because of the dark tarnish of drugs. And the care system she was entrusted to failed her. So love and really listen to your children, regardless of who they are or what they do. And fight for them, no matter what anybody else says, because every child is worth saving. In the end, love is all there is, and it’s important they know they had yours. Her mother, Terri Thomas and stepfather, David Thomas of Union Washington along with her sister, Jaimie Thomas, of Poway California and other friends and family cherish the happy memories of life with Chelsea and miss her deeply. Chelsea is in the care of McComb and Wagner funeral home in Shelton WA. Celebrations of life will take place in the shining summer sun next year. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in her honor can be made to Bulldog Haven NW.
