I will never forget my Aunt she made growing up fun. She was always there when I needed her. All the over night stays and the trips that she took my sister and I on. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten! Will always love you Auntie Ila.

Ila had such a quick, wry wit. I'm sure she caused hundreds of double-takes in her lifetime. Did she just say that? I have been a driver for the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church bus, ever since my mother started needing the bus. I was sad when I no longer could pick up Ila at her cheery mustard-yellow house. Ila, you spiced up our lives and we will miss you, more than ever.

Ila was a bubbling treasure of one liners and a heart of gold! How we loved to banter back and forth... Her smile was never ending. I will always remember her with a very, very big smile. Now she up in heaven having a great time with all the relatives and friends she has not seen in a long time. I miss you and love you Ila...

Ila joined the Thumberg family when she married Vern. She was upbeat, vivacious, caring and fun. We'd see her at the summer family reunions and she'd always thank us for our Christmas card photo and ask about our kids as we became empty-nesters. I'm sure the final years of demensia were difficult - but in reading other comments it sounds like Ila stayed social - a people person to the end.
Sending our love to the entire family and many friends, Tim and Sue Stewart

I can't seem to find the right memories to share right now with one because I got so many of them of her. We attend to the same church together at Gloria Dei Lutheran church and If I wasn't there and called her up where were you on sunday my little one? she laughed? She was the most loveable and joyful lady there was and always had a smile on her . I had visited her often at Hamptin Inn for dememtia and let me tell you what she light up and had her finger at me saying Where have you been ? what took you so long. ? I spend hours with her and with a long talks to the end I was lucky I got to know and got to spend time with her because she was like a 2nd mom to all who loved and with that I love you BIG ILA .. ( her Response was ) That's nice. I'll never will forget that..
I will miss her and she will not be forgotten we love you !!

I worked with Ila at Seattle First National Bank. I was just 19, and the older women seem to always take care of us young ones. She was always calling me Beautiful Betty, and no matter where she saw me, she called me that. That was her way of making me feel special. She was a sweet lady and I enjoyed working with her. The last time I saw her, she was starting to get Dementia/Alzheimer's and that was hard to see. She will be missed.

My most memorable time with Aunt Ila was on my 8th birthday when we were at the Capitol Theater watching “Lady and the Tramp and Hurricane Freda (Columbus Day Storm of 1962) struck. Leaves and branches were severely blowing in our path as we were driving to the nearest shelter. I realized the danger in the situation but I was never afraid as I was with my Aunt Ila. Aunt Ila was the wife to my Uncle Oscar Johnson. He passed away at age 33 but Aunt Ila remained our close aunt for the rest of her life. My father pasted away when I was 11 years old and a few months after that my mother had complications from surgery and was hospitalized a very long time. Aunt Ila became my mother when my own mother was ill. She was perfect in my eyes. She took me on day trips to Mount Rainier, the movies and to church. Many years later when my mother did pass away, I was 29, Aunt Ila told me that she made a promise to my mother that she would take care of me after something happened to her. Aunt Ila said she was now there to take care of me. She was family to all of my cousins and we deeply loved her.

Auntie Ila was the super-glue in our Johnson family. She made every holiday, events and birthdays special for each of us, our children and their children.
She was a gracious hostess and I imagine she's now serving all the angels in Heaven her Norwegian coffee and cookies.
She leaves a lasting legacy with many loving memories in our family and will be in my heart forever.
