Obituary of Doris Carol Frances Turner

Doris Carol Francis (Dahlin) Turner December 2, 1918 – March 3, 2015 Doris was born on the family farm in Radium, MN on Dec 2, 1918, to Carl and Dorthea (Greenley) Dahlin. She spent her early years enjoying life and working hard on the farm along with her siblings; Art, Orville, Harriet, Marlys, and Earl. After the death of their mother, Doris helped raise her younger Siblings. She later came out west to stay with her Aunt Lottie and Uncle Charlie in Kalispell, Montana. She came to Olympia to be a bridesmaid for her best friend Anne Parker. There she met the love of her life and future husband, Wallace Ray “Pete” Turner. Doris and Pete were married on Nov. 27, 1941 in Olympia. They were blessed with two beautiful children; Maxine Francis in 1942, and Robert Ray in 1947. They built a home on San Francisco Ave where they lived for many years. Many friends and family members were served delicious meals there, as Doris loved company and was a wonderful cook. She was famous for her Blackberry Pie, “Fork” cookies, and “Rosettes”. Doris worked for the State of WA. Dept. of Ecology for many years. After Pete’s passing in April 1974, she continued living in the family home and working for the State. She kept herself very busy with work, her church activities, Sons of Norway, Dance Clubs, razor clam digging, working in her yard and spending time with her many friends. If there was ever someone in need she was there to help. Always a giver. In 2006, she moved to Kennewick, WA to be closer to her son Bob and family. She stayed very active until she suffered a stroke in 2011. After that, she moved into an Assisted Living Adult Family Home, where she made many new friends and became the caregivers’ favorite! In 2012, she fell and broke her hip and even though she recovered, it took a toll on her “overall” health. On Tuesday, Mar. 3, 2015, at 12:28am, surrounded by her family and ministering angels, she was welcomed into Heaven by her Savior. Our loss is Heaven’s gain. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Dorthea Dahlin, her brothers Art and Orville, her sister Harriet Capistan, her husband Wallace “Pete” Turner, and daughter Maxine Gruver. She is survived by her son Bob (Julie) Turner, grandchildren, Pastor Jeff (Angela) Turner, Taya (Tony) Winter, Tiffany Bush, Dr. Justin Turner, Jared Turner, and Courtney (Jake) Mayfield; 9 great-grandchildren; Benjamin, Abby, Alexa, Emily, Anya, Madison, Brek, Jacob, & Jaxon, brother Earl (Ruth) Dahlin, sister Marlys (Earl) Swanson, brother-in-law Warren (Deannie) Turner, sisters-in-law Madge Ellis and Lois Pieren, and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
