Obituary of Wayne McCord

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Wayne Kempton McCord, infamously known as “Hoopie,” was born on May 23, 1970, in Shelton, Washington, where he spent the majority of his life. On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the young age of 54, Hoopie was unexpectedly called home by the Lord, leaving his family and anyone that knew him in deep anguish. Hoopie is survived by his seven siblings: Mike, Terina, Taunya, Jimmy, Tersa, Mick and Tausha; his daughter, Caitlin; twin grandsons, Kempton and Josiah; and his newest granddaughter, Aaliyah. Though he never legally married, he shared the past 26 years with his life partner, caregiver, and best friend, Amy. He also leaves behind “step” daughters Lea, Brittany, and Katie, along with additional grandchildren: Caylee, Treydan, Aniya, Serenity, Mikel, JJ, Olivia, and Baby Niko on the way. Known for his vibrant personality, Hoopie had the most unique ability to light up any room he entered. He was the undefeated arm-wrestling champion, a dedicated and hardworking logger, and took great pride in being the “meanest and the cleanest” brush picker. A strategic hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed making others laugh hysterically, camping, mushroom picking, crabbing, cooking, being outdoors, and spending quality time with his family. Wayne possessed a remarkable ability to live off the land and create something out of nothing. He faced setbacks and disadvantages with resilience, always showing up and fighting until his very last breath. His love for his family was unparalleled, and his absence leaves a void that no man can fill. Preceded in death by his father, Michael “Mick” Reese McCord, and mother, Alta “Snooks” Louise McCord , Wayne is scheduled to lay interment in harmony and devotion among his parents. May we honor his legacy by living life to the fullest, with no regrets, and by cherishing and having more frequent family gatherings. Hoopie was as loyal as they come. He is deeply loved and is profoundly missed forever and always. Rest easy, visit us often… until we meet again! “Good people pass away. The Godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come. For those who follow Godly paths will rest in peace when they die!” Isaiah 57:1-2 A funeral service is being scheduled for the end of January or in mid February at Shelton Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a Potluck/Celebration of Life at Mt. View Alliance Church. The family will update everyone as the plans are finalized.
