Obituary of Charles Soverns Sr.

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Alan Soverns passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2025. Born May 21, 1945, in Nevada, Missouri, to Esta Lee and Charles F. Soverns. His father was killed in action one month before he was born. His mother remarried Robert Busby, and Bob became Dad to Charles. Charles spent his childhood moving frequently around the country and learning the meaning of hard work. He met his true love, Kathy, while attending high school. Charles joined the Air Force at the age of 17, and married Kathy three days after her high school graduation. Stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base, the newlyweds made heir first home in Spokane, Washington, where their daughter, Shelly, was born. A self-made man, Charles was determined to provide a stable home for his young family. With an honorable discharge, and baby number two on the way, Charles and Kathy moved back to Snohomish County, where Charles was hired at the Everett Herald, the day his son, Charles Alan Jr was born. Chuck (as he was known to the fellow printers) worked at the Herald for 39 years. Charles had many hobbies throughout his life, including fishing, studying history, collecting WWII artifacts, traveling with Kathy and working on puzzles. His singing voice was pitch perfect, and he often filled his home with song. His dedication to family, his sense of loyalty to country and never ending resolve to “do the right thing” are qualities he lived by. Known as Chas, Pop, Poppa, and most recently, Poppa C, he is already missed so very much. Charles joins his parents and beloved son, Charlie, in heaven and leaves for the time being, his wife of 61 years, Kate, daughter Shelly, granddaughters, Jess, Ani, Panda, and Rae and great grandson Colt. As well as beloved cousins and cherished friends, (OPOM), near and far. Per his request, there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the: Wounded Warrier Project PO Box 758516 Topeka, KS 66675
