Obituary of Vaughn Moody Cole

CSM (R) Vaughn Moody Cole was born on November 17, 1926 in Jonah, Texas. His parents Pirvey and Annie Cole had eight children: Martha May, Mable Louise, Erline, Kathline, Vaughn Moody, Jimmy Doris (Dot), Maurice Dean and John Thomas. When he was stationed in Washington State he met and married Constance. They had three children, Vaughn James, Marcia and Ronald. They were married for 54 wonderful years. In the year 2002 Vaughn met the second love of his life “Lois”. He was married to Lois for 9 wonderful years. Lois entered into marriage with 4 children, Eric, Jeff, Scott and Genene. Vaughn and Lois kept busy keeping track of all their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and just enjoying their life together as a married couple. When he married Lois he would say that he was so blessed to have truly loved two amazing women. He lived, loved and enjoyed his family, friends and life. As I was going through the photo’s of Vaughn’s life, starting as a baby to the most recent..a beautiful man at the age of 86 I realized there is so much to share. There was so much love within Vaughn and if you were lucky then you were there to receive a share. If you had the privilege of meeting Vaughn you would first notice the twinkle in his eye, his beautiful smile and his mannerism of comfort. He was a man that one could sense as a person of leadership, honesty and trust. I once asked him if he could do it all again what would he change? He said “you can’t change perfection”. Vaughn had a curiosity and passion for the stars, planets and space. He always wanted to go into space. He wanted to be that guy in the spaceship circling earth and reaching toward the unknown. I would just smile when he would talk of this. His Army career started in April of 1945. He was assigned to work with a team of engineers that tested building structural endurance for the after math explosion of the atomic bomb. He then moved on to the Korean War where he was assigned working with the South Korean army to develop the actual roads in Korea. When the North Korean army over ran into South Korea, Vaughn being the only American was running for his life. The army lost track of Vaughn and declared him missing but thanks to the kindness of a few South Koreans who kept him supplied with rice and many caves Vaughn surfaced 8 months later. In the 50’s he worked on the development of LES pay vouchers which were used for many years. In 1965 he had received his Sergeant Major Stripes. He served on Army bases in Washington State, Texas and several tours in Germany. On Tuesday September 24, 2013, Vaughn Moody Cole will receive a Full Military Honor Ceremony, a final tribute of recognition to a man who had served 24 years in the United States Army. When Command Sergeant Major Cole retired, his loyalty never faltered from the beliefs and developments of our great country. He had an extraordinary and fulfilling career with many accomplishments while serving in the army. We all have our memories of Vaughn as a Husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle or Friend. We were so lucky to have him with us for 86 years. He will always be missed. So now it’s time to thank him for letting us be part of his life.
