Obituary of Joan C Elsen

Joan Elsen, 63 passed away on January 7, 2017 at home in Shelton, Washington. Joan was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1953 to Judge John and Barbara Crandell. Joan graduated from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1982. She and her husband Mikel married in 1979 and had two wonderful children. Joan was a dedicated mother who always had a positive view of life. She enjoyed raising her two children, reading, music, gardening, travel, discussing politics, and her pets. Joan enjoyed, spending summers on Lake Michigan and in the Olympic Mountains, and was a big fan of the Seahawks and Mariners. She was also an active volunteer for various environmental causes. Joan is survived by her husband Mikel; daughter Ann Kasperski and her husband, Joseph; and son, Seth Elsen, and his wife, Madeline. She is also survived by her brother John and his wife, Pia. A celebration of life will be held at the Skokomish Grange on Saturday March 11 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joint Animal Services of Thurston County or the Saugatuck-Douglas Historical Society.
