For all of us from the Kiwanis of Hood Canal it has been our honor to get to know and work with George. This man was one of a kind with a great personality and humor, we will miss him every day. Our thoughts and heart are with his family.
We did a tribute to George at our last meeting, this comment was perfect - He never met a microphone he didn't like.

George was a man of so many talents. He loved his community, family and friends. He had the best sense of humor even when he was so sick. Jim and I will miss him so much. Eileen and family we love you and send prayers for your comfort.

Julie often mentioned her dad fondly. It was obvious how much she admired and loved him. And his public service record is so impressive - an FBI agent at 23! Deep condolences to the family on the loss of this fine man.

At Lake Cushman we have an organization tasked with teaching people in the community how better to protect their properties during a Wildfire event. This involves fuel reduction by completing simple tasks around ones property. That organization is called the Lake Cushman Firewise Council and it was formed in 2006. After the initial filling as a Firewise Community, we realized we wanted to setup Firewise as non-profit. Not knowing specifically how to do this, I knew my friend George was the man to ask. Even though he was right in the middle of his Save the Lake campaign, George graciously accepted the challenge. So George became instrumental in establishing the Lake Cushman Firewise Council as a 501c3. It took some time, George and I went back and forth to insure we had all the i's dotted and the t's crossed. The man was my rock!
After that project was completed we decided what better way to explain Firewise that to have some demonstration projects in our area. Of course George was there with his clippers and saws to help out (and his extra elevation was a big help!). Next we moved onto to a project of going around and chipping for people at their property. Not only did he and Eileen supply us treats (always a favorite of George of course), he was also there to hand the limbs to the chipper. He always made the days a little shorter and could always find something funny about even the most difficult property we encountered! Just made our time together an event to look forward to.
You know I have heard several people say they moved to Lake Cushman to get away from everything (and everyone). That was not George! He was so involved in every aspect of life at Lake Cushman. If you met him to say Hi, well he was more than just a say Hi guy; a conversation always followed! Not sure how exactly to put this but he had a way of making you feel like you wanted to be a part of what ever he was a part of; the community. There are so few people like this that we ever get the opportunity in life to meet. I feel SO blessed and I will miss him so much! I know I speak for Deanie as well.
