Obituary of Sandra K Frishman

Family and friends are mourning the passage of Sandra “Sandy” K. Frishman, 74, who passed away suddenly on Friday, December 13, 2019. Sandy overcame many obstacles in her life, guided by her strong spirit, determination and deep faith. Her smile and laughter filled the room and she touched the lives of many with her endless grace and compassion. She held her family and friends close, and was passionately devoted to all of them, especially her grandchildren. Some of her favorite things in life were her first morning cup of coffee, dogs Suzy and Molly, nature hikes, traveling (most recently to Ireland, niece Julie), her daily devotional and phone calls with family and friends. She had been an active member of Little People of America and served at one time as the Los Angeles Chapter president and national membership coordinator while living in Ventura, CA. Through LPA she met her husband Daniel and they quickly found a common interest in real estate investing. They moved from Ventura, CA. to their home on Harstine Island in 1992 when Daniel became director of Mason County Drug Abuse Prevention. Sandy was an active member of Faith Lutheran church, serving on the church council and most recently volunteering with the clothing bank ministry for inmates being released from the correction center. She was also a reading tutor at Choice High School. Sandy was born in Canton, Ohio on May 26, 1945. She graduated from Rancho High School, Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1963, and from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1967, with a degree in social work. When she moved to California she became a social worker coordinating adoptions for Ventura County, while also managing adoptions for a private agency and running an early morning paper route to help pay the bills as a single parent of two daughters. During this time, she also started “flipping” houses and acquiring rental properties. She and Daniel married in 1990, and soon thereafter moved to Washington where she worked for the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) and later the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems. She retired in 2010. She is survived by Daniel, her husband of 29 years, daughters; Stacie Denecke and her husband Dan, of White Lake, MI; Shelley Starrett and wife Jeannine Sturtevant of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren: Anthony Kyser; Chris Kyser and wife Catherine; Nicolette (Kyser) Ramirez and her husband Adriel, all of Houston TX; Megan Denecke of White Lake, MI.; niece Juliann Woods and her husband Jim of Simpsonville, S.C. and five great-grandchildren with another due in February. Her parents, brother and sister preceded her in death. The funeral is Monday, January 6, at 1 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Shelton. All are welcome. Donations, while not necessary, can be made in her name, to either Doctors Without Borders, World Central Kitchen (Jose Andres) or Lutheran World Relief.
