Obituary of Irene J. Goodale
Irene Jeanette Goodale, 81, of Bremerton Washington passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 26, 2020.
Irene was born in Seattle Washington to Ralph and Georgia Schoel and was the middle child to her two siblings, Dick and Jim. She grew up in Lakewood Washington. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Raymond Goodale and their three children, Cheryl (Barney) Manor, Greg (Sandra) Goodale and Ron (Lori) Goodale and one adopted son, Klaus Nygaard. She also had seven grandchildren, Paul, Brandon, Emily, Julia, Grant, Ramsey and Grayson.
Irene lived 52 happy years in Bremerton working for many years with Kitsap County as a social worker and also for Catholic Social Services working with many local senior citizens. Irene started the very first adult day care program in Kitsap County and positively influenced many lives through this work. She also worked for many years at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church which she was also a member for 52 years.
Irene dearly loved her church family and was very active with the choir and church leadership. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter CU for over 47 years. She was a lifetime Girl Scout and attended many camps and the National Girl Scout Roundup. Irene ran many Girlscout camps at Illahee State Park and was a Cub Scout leader for many years. Irene was an active member of the Bremerton Junior Womens club that built memorial park at the former site of the USS Misouri.
Irene loved spending time with her family and friends, singing, swimming, camping, traveling and was well known for giving the best hugs. Many considered her to be their “second” mom.
A celebration of life will be held outdoors at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church on Sunday September 6, 2020 at 12:00, social distancing will be observed. Donations may be made in Irene’s name to Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church. Online condolences can be made at: Mccombwagner.com
