That photo of Rick at Mauna Lani says it all - that form! That swing!! I’m Rick’s little sister Janet. It’s difficult to find words right now. Rick was 11 years older than me. Rick was very athletic and was always involved with sports and as we all know, golf was his game. He was an exceptional golfer. Rick also had a fantastic sense of humor and would have all of us laughing until our sides ached at family gatherings. Many may be unaware of this, but Rick was also very artistic- at least from what I remember from his high school days. Our mother was very creative and artistic, and this rubbed off on Rick. He certainly didn’t get it from our father!!! :))). Rick loved his family, Susan, children and grands. And let’s not forget the adorable Westies he and Susan bred. Rest easy brother - it’s hard to believe you’re gone. I hope you’re having a great time golfing with dad! Janet Hoffman

Rick may not have been my brother by blood, but I cherished his friendship more than anything! He is the person who introduced me to my BFF Susan! My memories of spending time with him and Susan at Discovery Bay in Washington are some of the happiest times in my life! Rick was always there for me when I went through breast cancer and had a way of making me smile when I was hurting! The world will never be as bright without him in it! I loved him with all my heart! RIP my dear friend. My life was blessed with you in it! I will never ever forget you, your kind heart, your smile, your love, your laugh, and the twinkle in your eyes

I had the pleasure of meeting Rick thru Susie - getting to know him and spend time with them since my move to Washington. I'll always remember Rick for his love of sports and golf; his playing poker with his friends; and the way he made me feel at home whenever I was at the house. Rick always greeted me with a smile and there was always laughter in his eyes, except when he looked at Susie - then only pure love would shine thru. Rick and I shared a mutual love - Susie's homemade treats - our love for her Peanut Brittle, Brownies, and Lemon Bars. He was always so appreciative of Susie's cooking and taking care of him - he made sure everyone knew it. I have heard him say many times how much Susie meant to him and how he'd be lost without her. To Susie and all of Rick's family and friends - I am so sorry, my heart aches - we have lost a good, kind, and caring man.
